From U.S Presidents to Hollywood Royalty to hottest stars on Broadway, Tamsen Fadal has interviewed some of the most exciting names out there. She recently had the tables turned and sat down with writer Valerie David from Yahoo.com to chat about her life as a busy modern woman in today's often hectic world.
Here's a snippet from the interview:
Fourteen questions, 20 minutes, and a whopping 3,000 words. This is what happens when you interview a multitasker like Tamsen Fadal, who anchors a morning news show, writes self-help books, runs a matchmaking and relationship coaching service called The Love Consultants, and puts together syndicated TV segments on dating and relationships with her husband and business partner, Matt Titus. I spoke with Tamsen early on a Tuesday morning, when I was just starting my day and she was just finishing work. We discussed her varied career, how she balances work and marriage, and her insights into dating and relationships.
When Tamsen and her husband, Matt, moved to New York City, they were looking for a new direction for their careers, and the two outgoing personalities were hoping to find something with a social angle. "We looked at the landscape of New York," Tamsen explains, "and realized the number of single women far outweighs the number of single men. We thought about doing some kind of social events, and maybe doing matchmaking. So Matt spent the better part of the year putting together what we called 'Matt's Little Black Book,' which was a book of single, eligible bachelors who were willing and ready to commit." Charlotte from "Sex and the City" would have so loved that idea.
What Matt and Tamsen discovered as they matched up compatible couples, however, was that not everyone knew precisely what to do once they were matched. "A lot of times there was a question of how to date the right way," Tamsen says, "you know, how do you flirt, what do you do past the first date, what do you do past the second date, why didn't he call?" This led the couple to develop a "dating boot camp" as well as one-on-one counseling that Matt oversees, transforming the "Little Black Book" into The Love Consultants. Tamsen and Matt also offer a constant stream of dating and relationship advice in the form of Q&A articles on their website, three self-help books and their weekly TV segments "Ask Matt & Tamsen."
